Well folks it doesn’t get any more official than this. Motorola started sending out invitations to an event that is going to take place in New York on August 1. The goal is here is to introduce the Moto X. Not sure if we’ll see the Nexus 7 though. The upper part of the phone can be seen in the bottom right corner of the picture above. Price is going to be a determining factor for the success of the Motorola X. We’ll know for sure in less that 12 days.
We’re going to have to wait a little longer for Google to announce their latest Nexus devices. The Android event that was supposed to take place on October 29th has now been officially cancelled. The event was cancelled due to weather. As you probably know by now, Hurricane Sandy is quickly making its way towards the eastern coast of the United States, and will bring strong winds, rain, and even possible snow to New York (where the event was to take place) and other parts of the eastern U.S.
At the event, Google was going to announce the new Nexus 4, a 32GB Nexus 7 tablet, a 10-inch Nexus tablet, and Android 4.2.
Unfortunately, Google hasn’t announced an alternate date for the event. As soon as they announce a new date, we’ll be sure to keep you updated. In the meantime, get ready for Hurricane Sandy.

Mark your calendars, folks. Google has scheduled an event for October 29th in New York City. This isn’t just any event, it’s an event related to Android, of course. At this event, it looks like Google will finally be announcing their next Nexus (or Nexuses) device(s).
So far, it looks like LG will be the next Nexus manufacturer with the LG Nexus 4, a device based on its popular Optimus G. There have been multiple rumors of Google going a different route with their Nexus program and instead of releasing just one Nexus device from one manufacturer; they could be releasing multiple Nexus devices from multiple manufacturers. So far, other candidates have been Sony, HTC, and even Motorola.
Either way, October 29 is not so far away. We will surely be finding out what tricks Google has in store for us on that day.
The event will be taking place at 10AM on October 29th in New York City. Lucky for all, Google will stream the entire event live at Youtube.com/Android
On March 30, something will be going down at the Oxford Street Phones4U store in London. A EuroDroid reader sent the above pic of the main window of the Phones4U store on Oxford street in London. This Oxford street Phones4U store is the same store that had exclusivity on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus when it launched back in November.
At the moment, we don’t know what Samsung and Phones4U have in store for us. Will they be announcing a brand new phone, such as the Galaxy S III? Or will they finally start selling one of the many upcoming Samsung devices that were recently announced?
Either way, we’ll be finding out more in just a few days.
Hey Galaxy Tab 10.1 owners, you can now go ahead and check for that TouchWiz UX update that you may have been patiently waiting for. We first discovered it a couple of days ago at the NYC event and we enjoy this tablet even more now!
Here’s a quick reminder of what’s included in the update:
- Samsung’s TouchWiz Live panels
- Mini Apps Tray
- Samsung Hubs
If you need more info, check out our hands on with the new TouchWiz. Remember that once you download this update, you cannot go back the older interface or disable it. Although, we think that you will be very happy with it. And just in case you didn’t get prompted, you go to Settings > About Tablet > System Updates. Let us know how you like it.
Thanks to Google Maps, I got an hour late to the Samsung event in NYC. So I missed the presentation but I got the chance to get my Galaxy Tab 10.1 flashed with the new TouchWiz. I also had to leave my tablet with the Samsung staff who then brought it back to me about 10-15 minutes later pre-loaded with the new UI. As you already know, this OTA update is supposed to be rolled out on august 5th.
Here are the key features that have been added with TouchWiz:
Samsung’s TouchWiz Live panels
This feature is one of the highlights of the press event. You can add live panel widgets to you homescreen, where they are constantly refreshing, bringing up the latest comments or news from your favorite social application. A widget resizing feature has also been added to the tablet. Resizing the widget is really easy, all you have to do is hold your finger down on the widget, an orange “drag-able- border will appear with dots at the midpoint of each border, drag the edge of it to expand or reduce its size.
Here’s a list of what’s included with the live panel widgets:
- Associate Press Mobile news widget
- Buddies now Contact widget
- Dual clock for world time
- Image gallery widget
- Task killer widget
- Social Hub widget
- Yahoo! Finance widget
Mini Apps Tray
This is one of my favorite features because it allows you to quickly access some apps without having to go to click on the app drawer and then look for it. To access the mini-drawer, you have to find an arrow pointing upwards in the bottom of the screen and click on it.
The mini Apps drawer includes 6 apps:
- Task Manager
- World clock
- Pen memo
- Music Player
This feature gives the Galaxy Tab 10.1 the ability to copy and past multiple items at once. To copy a text or an image, simply hold your finger on it and then click on the “copy” command. To paste, tap on the spot where you want to place your text or image, click on the clipboard button, select your text or image and that’s it.
- Media Hub: With Samsung’s Media Hub, you can choose from over 4,000 movies and TV shows, both available for purchase or rental. An application called Andorid Movies has also been added to the tablet and can connect, along with Samsung Media Hub, to your TV via the new HDMI adapter.
- Social Hub: If you have used TouchWiz in the past, you will probably be pretty familiar of what the Social Hub does. It basically syncs with your Facebook, Twitter, email, exchange and Linkedin accounts and then display the latest updates in the Feeds tab.
- Music Hub: This is Samsung’s own music store. It currently offers over 12 million songs, all available for purchase and direct download to the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Songs usually cost between $0.99 to $1.49.
- Samsung Dive: This is a very handy feature in case you lose your tablet. It lets you track it by using its GPS chip but I am pretty sure that it has to be connected to Wi-Fi network to find it.
- Mobile printing has been enabled but only works with Samsung printer via wireless connection.
- Smartview will let you stream content from some of the newer Samsung HDTVs to the Galaxy Tab 10.1
- A screenshot button has been added, allows to take a picture of whatever you have displayed on your scree, and pictures a re saved to the gallery.
- Enterprise support includes updates for device encryption, Cisci VPN and Webex, Sybase Mobile Device Management and Exchange ActiveSync ver. 14 support.
- Preloaded software: Amazon MP3 with Amazon Cloud Player, Amazon Kindle app, Words with Friends, Pen Memo and Photo Editor.
- Swype optimized for tablets
- Tilting feauture lets you drag widgets by just pressing on them and then tilting the tablets to the direction you want to move it to.
I was kind of skeptical about how Samsung integration of TouchWiz UX will work with stock Honeycomb, but after playing around with it for a while, I think that the overall tablet experience has been improved. The screen seems to be more responsive than before. I haven’t had any lag while moving from a screen to another or closing or switching between apps. The browser seems to be a little bit faster which is cool. I definitely recommend installing this update come August 5th and cannot wait for your feedback.
Samsung has just announced they will be releasing the TouchWiz update for the Wi-Fi version of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 on August 5. I actually just got back from the NYC media event where I was able to check it out. Doors are still open until 6PM EST for folks who want to be first to install TouchWiz on their GTab 10.1 tablets.
We will soon post a quick hands-on video about this new update and in the meantime, check out the full press release below.

AT&T has just listed the LG Thrill 4G aka Optimus 3D on their website last week, as coming soon. Leaked documents from Sams Club internal sales systems have singled out July as being the month when the Thrill will launch.
A private LG Thrill event in New York City has just been added by Ticketmaster on their Facebook page. The time of the event was set to Monday, July 25th at 7:30PM with an ending time of July 26 at 3:30AM. We have yet to hear any details from AT&T about pricing or release date but we’ll take this event as a hint to a late July launch for AT&T’s first 3D device. In the meanwhile, check out the first commercial of the Thrill 4g below.
Is anyone looking forward to getting the LG Thrill 4G?

If you use Facebook on a daily basis, you might have seen an invitation from Mark Zuckerbeg to attend a special product announcement live event. This comes right after Google unveiled their newest social platform Google+ which is intended to compete with Facebook.
Facebook announced today the addition of Group Chat, a new design for the chatting platform and video calling. Video calling will be using Skype’s UI. Once you make a video call through Facebook, your counterpart (if they’re online) will get prompted to accept your call. Mark Zuckerberg says that they used Skype because he believes in using companies that are specialized in providing one specific technology because they are better at it than others. Facebook has over 750 millions and each one of them will be able to video chat with one-click!
Whether these new features will be included in a, hopefully, more Android-native Facebook app, that will be a great question for Mr. Zuckerberg.
Update#1: Facebook Video chat feature isn’t available on phones and tablets yet. The group chat feature on the other hand works with them.
Update#2: If you want to try Facebook’s new video chat feature, go here
More coverage coming your way..
Samsung along with NetShelter organized a very nice event in New York City last night to introduce their newest Android tablet, the Galaxy Tab 10.1.We were able to get out hands one of these nice tablets before they get released in June 17th.
There were around 500 people present at this event and we had the chance to meet some great personalities from Android Central, Phandroid, Lilputting, Samsung and NVIDIA. The food was great but that wasn’t all, Samsung was giving away phones and tablets throughout the night and some lucky 4 winners got away with Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablets vouchers.
We had the pleasure of meeting Brad Linder from lilputing and also Phil Nickinson, Editor of Android Central, who by the way was the star of the night. Check out some pictures we took while we were at the party and we sure hope we had won one those Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablets or anything for that matter. I know Jonathan was trying to….
We have all been anticipating the release of the HTC Sensation 4G on June 8th but it looks like it is going to happen a bit later depending on when HTC and T-Mobile will officially announce it.
Anyways, TmoNews has gotten a tip about a job listing for a “tech savvy” individuals to work at a T-Mobile event on June 8th in Houston, TX. The job description clearly states that the event will showcase 3 new HTC phones. Our guess is that we will hear about the Sensation 4G, Mytouch 4G slide and the HTC Doubleshot, unless they change their mind and introduce either the HTC Wildfire S or the HTC G-Infinity. We can speculate all we want but the only way to find out is to actually hear from the mouths of T-mobile and HTC.

Motorola and Sprint have sent out invitations today to a lunch/press event which will take place in New York on June 9th of this year. Sprint’s CEO, Dan Hesse, and Motorola’s own, Sanjay Jha will both be there to address the press.
This will be an invitation-only event and that the press will be able to have “hands-om demonstrations of Sprint and Motorola’s latest collaborations.” We suspect that this event is related to the leaked “Motorola Photon 4G,” which is going to be a Droid X2 with Sprint branding all over it and maybe with WiMax compatibility. We’ll definitely keep you updated about this event, stay tuned!
We all know how Samsung bailed out on us on May 24th when they canceled their event in New York which we thought was going to be related to a possible Samsung Galaxy S II announcement.
Samsung Italia will be holding a live event on May 25 at 2:30PM EST (8:30PM local time) through the website samsungmobilelive.it. So if you know a little bit of Italian and want to help us with the translation, let us know!
The Android Italian blog, AndroidWorlit, claims that Samsung is going to announce the Samsung Galaxy S II. People, in Italy, have already reported receiving emails from Samsung asking them if they want to reserve the Galaxy S II and if you look at the picture above, you can clearly see that “the number of bookings has exceeded the number of products available. Enter any case your email address to be contacted in case of new availability.” It also states that the release date will be May 25th “while supplies last.”
Here’s to hoping, again, that Samsung will get their act together and announce a U.S. release for the SGS2 because I want one!!
We just learned from BGR that Samsung has decided to cancel the May 24 press event that was supposed to take place in New York. Many of us have been impatiently waiting for an announcement for the Galaxy S II and the Galaxy Tab 10.1 from the Korean phone manufacturer.
The reasons for postponing the event are unknown at this point which is really a bummer in my opinion but there must be something going on. Samsung claims the event has been “postponed until a later date.”
I want my Galaxy S II, Samsung!!
As you probably already know, Samsung and AT&T are going to be having an event in New York tomorrow, May 5th, to make some kind of announcement that we can only speculate about at this point. It looks like Samsung is planning on coming back to New York again on May 24th for another event and this time they will probably have it without any carrier.
I think that we can safely say that the Samsung/AT&T event will probably cover the launch of the Samsung Infuse 4G on AT&T’s network. So, what will the second event bring? We believe that we will finally hear about a potential Samsung Galaxy S II U.S. release, add to that Samsung might throw in some more details about the upcoming Galaxy tablets which are the Galaxy Tab 8.9 and the 10.1.
We will definitely keep you updated about this Samsung event and we would love to hear about what you guys expect out of this event.
via Android Central
As we all know, Samsung has announced the release of the Galaxy S II last week in their home country of Korea and then a release in Europe later in that week. So far we have not been able to confirm any release date for the Galaxy S II in the U.S. and nor for the Samsung Infuse 4G that is supposed to be released by AT&T. Apparently, AT&T and Samsung have been planning an event in New York for May 5. Invitations have sent out for the chosen ones to RSVP for the event. As of right now, all you can hear from tech blogs is going to be pure speculation because no one really knows what will be announced.
AT&T has been talking about the Samsung Infuse 4G for a while now but hasn’t announced when it will be released but we also found out from a Walmart product tag that we could see the 4.3-inch Samsung phone in May. If we go by Samsung’s announcements this last week, we should hear something about a potential release of the Samsung Galaxy S II in the near future.
