According to French newspaper Les Echo, Google is planning on launching its NFC-based payment system, Google Wallet, in the UK in the first quarter of 2012. The service, which was launched in September in the United States, has been gaining a lot of traction. The UK launch will be just in time for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games which is taking place in London. Les Echos reports that the search giant is in talks with several banks, retailers, and distributors to make the launch before the summer games begin in July.
Of course, Google hasn’t made any official news about this, so for now, we’re treating this as a big rumor. We’ll be sure to keep you folks across the pond updated with more information as it becomes available.
