[Review] TYLT Energi 2K Travel Charger

  • Rechargeable 2,200mAh internal battery
  • AC prongs fold away for travel.
  • Universal USB port for charging most smartphones
  • 1 Amp circuit rapidly charges your device.
  • Colors: Black, red, blue and green.

There is no doubt that TYLT is one of my favorite phone-accessory makers. Why? Because I like the quality and the design of their products. In this review I am going to share my thoughts about the TYLT Energi 2K travel charger.

The Energi 2K isn’t like any wall charger. Sure it does look like one but it does much more. Not only you can plug it in the wall to charge your phone (with a USB cable) but it also packs a 2,200 mAh battery meaning that you can take it with you and use it as a backup battery. It has collapsible prongs. You fold them and throw it in your bag, backpack or pockets (yep, I do this). To check on Energi’s battery life, you can click on a button which has an LED light that changes color depending on the level of juice this charger has left (yellow means it’s draining; red means its dying).

One little setback is that it only outputs 1 Amp which could be somewhat insufficient for tablets and some of the latest phones with larger batteries like the Nexus 6 or the Note 4. Don’t get me wrong. It will still charge them but at a slower pace. At 2,200 mAh, it has a 1,000 mAh less than my Nexus 6.

TYLT made it with the purpose of being an emergency backup battery charger because it will be there in those moments when you desperately need to charge your device. It is easy to carry and pretty nice to look at. The Energi 2K worked well for my wife who used during the past couple of months. She travels quite often and she swears by it. However, she wishes that the battery was a bit bigger for her needs.

You can purchase one of these for $39 or less. It doesn’t come with a USB cable. You may use the one that came with your phone or purchase one TYLT’s cool looking SYNCABLE for about $15.

Final thoughts

Would I recommend the TYLT Energi 2k? Yes. Because I believe that it is nicely made, it looks good and is durable. And it can charge your phone on-the-go and act as wall charger as well. I am hoping to see a 2A output or more with a slightly larger battery in the future. Head to TYLT’s website to fin out more about this charger and the array of products they have to offer.
