Official: Amazon launches ‘the most powerful tablet’ under $100, the Kindle Fire HD 6 and 7


Along with the new flagship tablet, the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9, Amazon also unveiled the Kindle HD. It is powered by Amazon’s new version of Fire OS, Sangria. The most appealing attribute of this tablet is the low price of $100 for the 6-inch slate or $139 for the 7-inch model. It doesn’t take a genius to know that they will sell very well.

As far as specs are concerned, the Kindle HD tablets will have:

  • Display: 6-inch with 1280 x 800 (252 ppi); 7-inch with 1280 x 800 (216 ppi)
  • Processor: 1.5GHz quad-core processor
  • OS: Fire OS “Sangria”
  • Memory: 1GB of RAM
  • Camera: Rear 2MP , front VGA camera
  • Storage: 8, 16 GB
  • Dimensions: 6.7″ X 4.1″ X 0.4″ (6″), 7.5″ X 5.0″ X 0.4″ (7″)
  • Weight: 290 grams (6″), 337 grams (7″)
  • Connectivity: WiFi

Head on to Amazon if you’d like to get first dibs on the Kindle HD tablets. Price wise, the 6-inch sells for $99 (8GB) and $119 (16GB). While the 7-inch slate starts at $139 for the 8GB version and $159 for 16GB. They’ll start shipping sometimes in next month.
