Huawei unveils the Ascend P1 S, the world’s thinnest smartphone – just 6.68mm thin!

The Motorola Droid RAZR is no longer the top dog when it comes to slim phones. Today at CES, Huawei and its Ascend P1 S smartphone took that title away from the Droid RAZR.

The Ascend P1 S is just 6.68mm thin compared to the Droid RAZR’s 7.1mm thinness. In addition to its thinness, the Ascend P1 S also features a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display with 960 x 540 resolution and Corning’s Gorilla Glass (not the new Gorilla Glass 2 that was announced today).

The Ascend P1 S also features a powerful 1.5GHz dual-core TI OMAP 4460 processor. Camera wise, the Ascend P1 S features both and front and rear-facing cameras; the 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera is capable of recording video at 720P. In the back, you have a 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash that is capable of capturing video at 1080P.

In addition to announcing the Ascend P1 S, Huawei also announced the Ascend P1. Both phones feature the same specs, except for size and battery power. While the Ascend P1 S is a tiny 6.68mm thick, the Ascend P is slightly thicker at 7.69mm. Battery wise, the Ascend P1 S features a 1800mAh battery compared to the Ascend P1’s 1670mAh battery.

Both phones will be available in Europe, Asia-Pacific, North America, Australia, Middle East, and China sometime in April 2012. They will be available in a number of colors including metallic black, ceramic white, cherry-blossom pink, and more.

It looks like Huawei kept their promise to deliver something big. For the longest (in the U.S. at least, the Huawei brand has been associated with budget and low-cost.
