HTC makes the Re Camera official, will launch in time for the Holidays for $199

HTC announced not too long ago the release of the Re Camera that is supposed to be in the same product category as GoPro. It is set to launch during the holiday season for $199 and yes it does look unusual, but I think it is neat.

It is interesting to see HTC, a phone maker, jump into the portable/action camera. The Taiwanese company says that this camera is geared toward regular people who are looking to capture regular moments of their lives – it is by no means a rugged powersports camera.

Other than looking like my inhaler (haha), the Re has a minimalist  design with a round button and a couple of LED lights. It can be hanged using a slew of accessories including head mounts, bar and suction mounts. In terms of specs, you have:

  • 16MP sensor shoots 1080p 30fps HD videos
  • 820 mAh battery is enough for 1,200 photos, 1h40 minutes of video
  • 32MB ROM/256MB DDR RAM with microSD
  • Bluetooth, Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n) with microUSB port
  • Rated IPX7, no case required

HTC is looking to launch the Re Camera very soon. It will be carried by retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon. Pre-ordered have already started over at Would you guys pick this over the GoPro?
