Bloomberg gets in on the Facebook phone rumors, says it’s coming in mid-2013

First it was DigiTimes, then the New York Times, and now Bloomberg has information on the Facebook phone.

According to a new report from Bloomberg, the Facebook phone could be available as soon as mid-2013. Facebook has contracted HTC to build its first real smartphone. According to the report, the phone was supposed to be released by the end of this year, but was pushed back so that HTC could have more time to work on other projects.

Like Amazon and its Kindle Fire, Facebook is expected to build its phone using a modified version of Google’s Android smartphone operating system. With its own mobile phone, Facebook is hoping to monetize on the millions of its users that currently use the service through mobile.
