ASUS to issue an official statement about the Transformer Prime’s locked bootloader (updated)

While this isn’t going to affect the average user of the Transformer Prime tablet, some Android developers over at XDA have found out that the bootloader on the ASUS tablet is locked. This means that you won’t see any custom ROMs and many other hacks for the quad-core equipped beast.

So for all of you who are into customizing your Android gadgets and especially the Transformer Prime, ASUS is telling you to “relax” and to wait for an official statement. In the meantime, ASUS Taiwan has issued a statement talking about the bootloader (translated):

he bootloader function block, the main reason is that many publishers requested media services security mechanisms to protect digital content (DRM digital rights management); In addition, in view of past experience of the first generation of flat deformation, crack users themselves (Root), after the machine may result in damage to the machine can not even use, so ASUS Extreme deformation in the offset above with the bootloader encryption protection to support digital content while protecting video rental functionality and stability of the machine. However, the same time, ASUS has heard many users still want to improve the use of authority, to unlock the bootloader needs, so Asus is also actively developing an unlock code as soon as possible, will be released after completion of program development, to provide professional players more freedom and open platform to enjoy the ultimate experience in lithography extreme deformation. (Using the unlock code unlock the bootloader protection, some digital video rental service will be unavailable, the machine is not longer protected bootloader, so the user must first agree to waive the original warranty, please pay special attention to the impact of users)

We sense that ASUS U.S. is going to release a similar statement for us here. Be prepared to loose your warranty once you unlock your the bootloader and also to wait for the Taiwanese electronics manufacturer to release the unlocking tool.

Update
As expected, ASUS U.S. has released their statement about the bootloader issue:

egarding the bootloader, the reason we chose to lock it is due to content providers’ requirement for DRM client devices to be as secure as possible. ASUS supports Google DRM in order to provide users with a high quality video rental experience. Also, based on our experience, users who choose to root their devices risk breaking the system completely. However, we know there is demand in the modding community to have an unlocked bootloader. Therefore, ASUS is developing an unlock tool for that community. Please do note that if you choose to unlock your device, the ASUS warranty will be void, and Google video rental will also be unavailable because the device will be no longer protected by security mechanism.
