According to the Associated Press, Samsung just filed a complaint against Apple in France claiming that the Cuppertino-based company has infringed three mobile phone technology patents in its iPhone and iPad products. This suit was filed all the way back in July but was only announced yesterday. It is said that the patents in question concern Apple’s use of the UMTS technologies, UMTS is a term for the third generation radio technologies developed within 3GPP.
The targeted devices are Apple’s iPhone 3G, 3GS and 4 smartphones and the first and second generations of their 3G-enabled iPad tablets. A Samsung spokeswoman explained that the “the complaint focuses on three technology patents, and not on the design of the tablets,” which was used in the complaint filed and won in Germany by Apple last week. This complaint is a part of an ongoing patent war between Samsung and Apple which is taking place in many parts of the world. The first hearing has been scheduled for December and we cannot wait to hear the details.
