Unlimited Data death confirmed by Verizon starting July 7

Leaked documents about Verizon killing their unlimited data plan have been all over the net for the past couple of weeks and everyone is awaiting Big Red’s official announcement about it.

Fierce Wireless has been able to confirm via a Verizon spokeswoman named Brenda Raney, that new Verizon Wireless customers will have to choose from the following data plans:

  • $10 for 75MB
  • $30 for 2GB
  • $50 for 5GB
  • $80 for 10GB

Current Verizon customers with an unlimited data plan will automatically get grandfathered into their old plan, if they decide to upgrade their device.

If you use our guide to data plans, you would clearly see that some of Verizon’s lower data plans are bit more expensive than the ones from AT&T that are currently being offered (200MB for $15 and 2GB for $25). Folks who are in the market for a smartphone with unlimited data and considering Big Red should definitely make a move before July 7th. And if they pass that deadline, they can always look at T-Mobile and Sprint’s unlimited data offerings.

    Zach,

In the last paragraph you write June when I think you mean to write July.
Also, I question your exact usage of the verb “grandfathered”. You won’t be grandfathered into a new plan. You stay grandfathered into your old plan until you upgrade.

    Just trying to help, man.

    • Hi John,

I should have put “old” instead of “new.” I really appreciate you catching that error.

      Thank you very much

      Zack
