Sprint HTC Evo 4G LTE no longer launching on May 18 due to US customs investigation

If you’re one of the people who were planning on getting the HTC Evo 4G LTE on Sprint this Friday, there’s some bad news for you. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the launch of the Evo 4G LTE has been delayed due to the customs review required by the ITC in relation to the patent lawsuit it lost to Apple.

There’s no word on when the device will be available on Sprint now. Sprint has updated its website and removed all reference to a May 18 launch. In addition, the wireless carrier is no longer accepting new online pre-orders. The HTC Evo 4G LTE’s product page on Sprint simply lists the device as “coming soon”.

If you’re one of the many people who pre-ordered this phone or was hoping to grab one at 8AM this Friday, you will have to be a little patient. HTC is confident that it has resolved the issues Apple complained about in its patent lawsuit and are confident that once customs examines things, the devices will be on their way to consumers.
