According to our tipster, Motorola has just sent emails to its soak test members alerting them to get ready to receive the 4.5.91 update which is intended to bring Android 2.3 to the Atrix 4G and other enhancements (maybe an unlocked bootloader). Motorola Forums managers are advising users to not manually look for the update and to let the notification come to avoid any issues with their servers/
Here’s how it’s going down:
- Read everything on the overview tab of the private area.
- It is advised that you have a battery with 50% charge or more when performing the upgrade. Secondly, the upgrade should only be downloaded over WiFi, as doing so over 3G could contribute to significant data charges** if you are not on an unlimited plan. If you have trouble downloading through your WiFi network it is advised that you try another WiFi network.
- You may elect to back up SMS messages and other non-cloud based content before installing the upgrade. Cloud based content and memory card info is maintained.
The update is supposed to be rolled out in the hour or so and will not be intended for the general public until it comes out of the beta testing phase. It shouldn’t be too long until we see a public release of the 4.5.91 update.
If you don’t get the notification within two hours of when others first report receiving it, feel free to post on the “I didn’t get a notification” thread. Only comment on the Upgrade Issues thread if you have an issue, the original posts gives some guidelines. No need for confirmation that you received the upgrade or that it downloaded successfully.
Update: Gingerbread update has already started rolling out in batches to testers
