Motorola announces the RAZR I, its first Intel-powered Android smartphone

Back at CES 2012, Motorola and Intel announced that they were going to be partnering up to produce a phone running on Intel’s Medfield platform. Fast forward to 9 months later, and we finally have the result of that collaboration.

Today at a press event in London, Motorola and Intel announced the Motorola RAZR I, the first Motorola phone to run on an Intel processor.

The Motorola RAZR I features a fast 2GHz Intel Atom processor. It runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and features a 4.3-inch qHD edge-to-edge display, a 1080P camera capable of snapping 10 pictures per second, a 2000mAh battery. Other specs of the RAZR I include 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, microSD slot for expanding storage, Wi-Fi, aGPS and standard GPS, and more.

Essentially, the RAZR I is the identical to the recently-released Droid RAZR M that was released on Verizon Wireless, except that it’s powered by Intel.

The Motorola RAZR I will be available in black in select European and Latin American markets including the UK, France, Germany, Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico in the beginning on October. If you’re interested in a white version, you will be happy to know that one will be available in select markets at a future date.

Unfortunately, in terms of release in the United States, no information was made available. Maybe AT&T and Sprint will be getting their hands on this one, since Verizon already has the Droid RAZR M.

Motorola Mobility in partnership with Intel Corporation introduced the powerful Motorola RAZR™ i with Intel Inside®: the new full-screen smartphone that fits in the palm of your hand. Its Super AMOLED Advanced 4.3-inch display spans from edge-to-edge with virtually no border – giving you more screen with less phone. The power of Intel Inside means you also get an instant-launch 8-megapixel camera that can load in less than a second2. Just use the dedicated camera key so you get the shot you want. When there’s action involved, multi-shot mode lets you snap 10 pictures in less than a second. And with the illuminated sensor located on the back and High Dynamic Range (HDR) capabilities, you’ll get a great shot, even in challenging lighting conditions.

“Together with Intel, we’re redefining what people can expect from a mobile device. RAZR i is a great proofpoint in the collaboration and we’re thrilled to be working with Motorola to bring this edge-to-edge experience enhanced with Intel Inside to people around the world.”
