Modified Netflix app stopped working? Try the official app instead

We’ve been getting a lot of reports today about the modified Netflix app no longer working. I wanted to see what the problem was so I fired up Netflix on my Droid X and sure enough, the app no longer worked. When you fire up the Netflix app, you’re now notified that an update is available and that you must update to proceed. The only problem is that some people aren’t able to update because when taken to the Android Market, they’re unable to download the updated Netflix.

Late last week, Netflix released an update to its Android app. In addition to adding support to more devices, they also removed the device check that was preventing certain non-compatible phones from loading the app. Unfortunately, if your phone isn’t one of the 8 that’s officially supported (LG Revolution, Motorola Droid, Casio G’ZOne Commando, Droid Incredible, Nexus One, EVO 4G, T-Mobile G2, and Samsung Nexus S) you won’t be able to see the Netflix app in the Android Market.

Official Netflix app now works on my rooted Droid X

I wasn’t able to get the movie in the screenshot. Just know that it works fine.

The download below is the official Netflix app from the Android Market. I tested it with my rooted Droid X running on Rubix and it worked fine. If the modified version no longer works for you, you should give this one a shot. Let us know how it works by dropping a comment below.
