Judge advises AT&T and DOJ to settle on September 21

Last week, the Department of Justice filed a suit against the $39 billion acquisition of T-Mobile by AT&T. It claimed that “AT&T’s elimination of T-Mobile as an independent, low-priced rival would remove a significant competitive force from the market.” While this suit has added pressure on Big Blue, who is at risk of loosing money in the form of baking fees , Judge Ellen S. Huvelle, of the United States District Court in Washington, has made it loud and clear that she wants AT&T, Deutcshe Telekom and the DOJ to come up with a joint plan comes September 16. In addition, the judge also ordered that the the “parties shall be prepared to discuss the prospects for settlement” on September 21.
So in only two weeks and depending on the outcome of the settlement, we will finally know if the AT&T-T-Mobile merger will go through.
