Is Verizon Wireless blocking apps from updating?

I just across this post on Reddit, apparently Verizon is blocking an application from getting updated. Reddit user ‘trapezound‘ claims that Big Red has blocked the application EasyTether from receiving a software upgrade and displayed the following message on his/her phone, “this item is not available on your carrier.” This is probably a part of Verizon plans to block “unauthorized tethering”, especially folks who have been grandfathered into unlimited data plans and are using their phone to connect to the Internet ‘without paying for it’. I am not sure if this is an isolated case which is why I am wondering if any of you are encountering the same issue. If you happen to have that problem, you can bypass it by putting your device into Airplane Mode, connecting to a Wi-Fi network and then updating your app.

Did the same with PdaNet 3.2 and Wireless Tether.

Even in Airplane mode I still get the banner and I can not install the program.
