Google launches in-app billing for Android apps

by Jonathan Radande March 29, 2011 3

In-app billing, the ability for developers to distribute content and earn extra revenue from within their apps, has officially launched in the Android Market less then a week after testing was opened for developers. This is great news for both developers and users.

Now, developers will be able to earn extra money from their apps by offering digital content, extra levels, virtual goods, and more. For users, you will now be able to make these purchases from within the applications.

In addition to in-app billing being launching, several apps that depend on in-app billing also launched. Tap Tap Revenge by Disney Mobile; Comics by ComiXology; Gun Bros, Deer Hunter Challenge HD, and WSOP3 by Glu Mobile; and Dungeon Defenders: FW Deluxe by Trendy Entertainment.

If you’re a developer and would like to learn more about in-app billing, check out this guide on the Android Developers site.

Expect to see many apps utilizing in-app billing in the future. A lot of Android developers such the ones listed above were waiting for in-app billing to be release before seriously committing to Android.

    Is it now launched?
Because yesterday I just read (http://creatingapps.telekomaustria.com/android-in-app-billing-ready-for-testing.html) that they launched the test phase.
I agree with you that it is a great development for both.

    THX for info.
