Bloomberg: New Motorola phone to have edge-to-edge display, to be announced on September 5

According to the folks over at Bloomberg, Motorola Mobility is planning on announcing a bezel-free phone at Wednesday’s press event, which will also be attended by the folks over at Verizon Wireless. According to a person familiar with the matter, the phone will feature 4G LTE connectivity and an edge-to-edge screen, which would utilize the entire front of the device for the display.

We’re still not quite sure how this one will work, but we’re hoping that it works out well because this is something that many people have been hoping for on smartphones.

On traditional smartphones, a small portion of the display is left for the bezel, or the small black frame that surrounds the outer edge of the display. The top part of the bezel is usually reserved to house things like speaker, front-facing camera, and sensor. The bottom is used for capacitive touch buttons. The bezel on the side of the display is there to prevent you from accidentally activating the sensitive touch display while picking up the phone.

One phone that’s rumored to the announced at the September 5 event is the Motorola RAZR M. A new 4G LTE phone with a dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor. While the RAZR M features a very small bezel, there’s still one present.

September 5th is not far away. We’ll find out for sure if Bloomberg is referring the Droid RAZR M or if Motorola has another surprise in store for us.
