Apple sues Samsung over Galaxy line of phones and tablets

Apple has file a lawsuit against Samsung because the Samsung Galaxy line of phones and tablets “slavishly” copies the iPhone and iPad. You already know how the saying goes: If they’re creeping up on your market share, sue them! Ok, I made that one up.

The lawsuit alleges that Samsung violated Apple’s patents and trademarks. The intellectual property infringement phrase is listed below:

“Rather than innovate and develop its own technology and a unique Samsung style for its smart phone products and computer tablets, Samsung chose to copy Apple’s technology, user interface and innovative style in these infringing products.”

Kristin Huguet, a spokesperson for Apple said “this kind of blatant copying is wrong”.

Samsung responded to the lawsuit and allegations by saying “Samsung’s development of core technologies and strengthening our intellectual property portfolio are keys to our continued success,” and “Samsung will respond actively to this legal action taken against us through appropriate legal measures to protect our intellectual property.”

Do the Samsung Galaxy phones look a little bit like the iPhone, maybe? They both have screens, they both have buttons, they both are rectangular shaped, they both have internal cameras, etc, and the list goes on.

There’s no telling where this one will go. Apple is seeking injunctions against Samsung, damages, both actual and punitive, and a finding that the infrigement was willful.Samsung Galaxy S vs iPhone 3GS
