Android tops U.S. smartphone market with 42% market share

How about some Android domination news for today? The latest ComScore smartphone market share data for the U.S. is in, and guess who’s still on top? If you guessed Android, then you win a pat on the back :-). In the 3 month average ending July 2011 vs the 3 month average ending April 2011, Android’s smartphone market share in the U.S. increased by 5.4% from 36.4% to 41.8%. Apple came in second with 27% of market share, a 1% increase from the previous 3 month average. RIM came in third with a loss in market share. Their market share decreased from 25.7% to 21.7% between the two periods. Microsoft also saw their market share drop from 6.7% to 5.7%.
